Hello everyone,
This is a reminder that we need to have the list of names of those that
would like to participate in this year's winter retreat scheduled for
March 12-13 at Echo Grove in Rochester Hills. The theme is On Call 24/7,
How to be a Real Life Christian, Wherever, Whenever. We will be meeting
at church on Friday the 12th at 6:00 pm.
Hope that those of you who made it out to see the Passion of the Christ
found it to be an inspiration to overcome some of your own personal
struggles against Satan during this Lent season. It was certainly
thought provoking, and I recommend viewing some of the additional
websites for some of the background behind the movie. The official site
is:
www.thepassionofthechrist.com
Another informative site is:
http://www.passion-movie.com/english/index.html
Also, for home group (bible study) this week, we will be meeting on
Friday. Please contact me if you are interested and need information or
directions.
Have a wonderful week and come out to the retreat for a great time of
fellowship and insight into how to live our lives everyday for Christ.

Thanks eunhonga,
If for Valentine's Day on Saturday we are unable to find a "nice"
restaurant (i.e. other than Taco Bell) that is not completely booked, we
can have dinner at my house and games/movie. Or, we could go to a cafe.
Regardless, we will be meeting at church at 6 pm.
For clarification, for the retreat, we will be leaving Friday, March 12,
at 6 pm and arriving back on Saturday, at 9 pm. Please come and join us,
and invite friends. The retreat theme will be practical to almost anyone
who is having trouble being spiritual throughout their entire life, and
really complements the Bible Study sessions that we have been having.
The next Bible Study is this Thursday, starting at 8:30 pm at Leaona and
Naomi So's house. For directions, please contact me at 313-399-4831.
A reminder that there is a website that you can refer to if you "lose"
this email. It is at:
http://members.fortunecity.com/rocc
Depending on interest, a discussion group has been formed at Yahoo and
MSN Groups. If we would like to explore using these features, let me
know. There websites respectively are:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rocc/
http://groups.msn.com/ROCC/
These were primarily set up to help people locate us in the online
world, if they happened to be moving into this area.
Also, if there are any ideas that you are interested in doing as a
group, let me know. We are always trying to plan activities that we can
do together and grow as a group toward God. If you have specific prayer
requests, you can contact me or any of the leaders, as we do have some
prayer sessions in our leadership meetings and individually.

Hey Guys,
How's it going? We've got lots of news for everyone this week. First
of all I'd like to thank everyone who came out on the ski trip at Boyne
Mountain. It was fun, cheap and we had some pretty good mafia this time
around. We're thinking of maybe going to Blue Mountain for the next
time so let us know if you'd be interested.
This coming weekend is Valentines day. I know that a lot of you have
plans for this special night and we do too. We'll be meeting at 6:00 on
Saturday at church and we'll go out somewhere to eat. Location is still
to be determined but it will be a nice restaurant. (Taco bell anyone?
just kidding) We'd like to get an idea of how many people are
interested in going so could you please let us know if you can make it.
Feb 15th, we will be updating the bulletin board at 1:00. For any of
you who are interested in updating our bulletin show up and we'll get
some good food and spruce up our board. We have some great ideas and
we're looking for some more so if you can help us out that would be
good.
Feb24th, Passion will be released in theaters. We will be going to
see this film during the first weekend of March or the last week of
February. Exact date will be given as the date gets closer.
March 12th, 13th is our Winter Retreat. It will be held at Echo Grove
north of Rochester Hills. It will be $25/person and this will include a
night stay and all meals on Saturday. Friday evening you will need to
bring some extra money for our meal. The theme of the retreat is On
Call 24/7. Which is about being more then a Sunday Christian. About
being real at work, with friends with any parts of your life. To
present yourself as who you are as a Christian all the time. This is
exciting stuff and I think very relevant where many of us today. Please
try to free up that weekend. We will meet at 6:00 at the church and
come back on Saturday probably around 9:00. An itineray will be sent
out soon with what to bring. We will be playing mafia and pictionary
and all sorts of other games. We'll have praise, messages, workshops to
help us understand better about being On call 24/7.
March 21st will be the 2nd Annual Chili cook-off. Defending champion
Jeremy has already signed up and I will once again try my hand at chili.
This year though I think I'll have a better shot at it. Anyone else
who is interested contact me at [email protected] and I'll get you
registered. All proceeds will go to fundraising for the ROCC this year.
Anyone interested in judging, please contact me as well.
That's about it from me.
Have a great week and I'll see you guys at church.
Your Brother in Christ,
Eric

Hello all,
My body still aches from the numerous technical wipeouts on the snowboard,
but it wasn't without their entertainment merits (for those watching from
above on the chairlifts) and I'm still recovering from a lack of sleep, but
it's great to be back on solid ground once again. I need a vacation from a
vacation it seems, and once again God has reminded me that I shouldn't take
for granted the relaxation of work. Last week I learned that not only does
God love us, but He also likes us, and wants to be with us wherever we may
be, no matter how much we may stray.
I hope this upcoming Bible Study is as thought provoking as the last one.
This Sunday sounds like a good time to meet, I want to also remind everyone
that in the evening it is Superbowl Sunday, and the ROCC has been invited to
the Sohn house for some football and a multitude of other festivities. It
will be a great time to fellowship with the rest of the South Parish and I'm
sure there will be some great food as always. For those who need a map or a
ride, directions for the gathering will be distributed on Sunday. This will
also be a great opportunity to welcome Chong and Ashilie Sin to the group.
This Sunday will be pretty busy, please come join us for lunch after the 10
am service. Hope to see you there.

Subject: Weekly Annoucements for January 15th

Hey Guys,
Happy New Year from the ROCC. I know it's kind of late but it's
better late then never. We've got a jam packed year for you. The favorites
of last year are returning including the retreats, the home groups, the
cedar point trip, super bowl Sunday, Valentines event, Chili cook-off and a
some more new events such as camping, ski-trips etc.
This week I'd like to highlight the major events that will be going
on in the next month.
Jan 23-24 Ski Trip at Boyne Mountain
Jan 25th (optional day)
For this trip we need to know who needs ski and lift tickets. Since
this is all advance ticketing, we need to know by this Sunday who wants in
on these tickets. It'll cost 45 dollars for a whole day pass of lift
ticket, ski rental and lessons for beginner skiiers. If you want to
purchase lift tickets and rent skis separately it'll cost about 70-80
dollars. So either email myself, or any one of the leaders. My email is
[email protected]. Jung Hoe's email is [email protected], Mike Kim's
email is [email protected], Leaona's email is [email protected]. Also for
transportation we need to know who's going so we can find out if we need the
van or not. Please let us know as soon as possible.
Jan 22nd, A few of us will be going to do some grocery shopping on the
trip. If you'd like to help let us know.
Feb 1st- Superbowl Sunday
We will be getting together with the EM at hopefully a home with a Big
Screen TV. If not, we'll be going to hang out at Jung-Hoe's in Taylor.
I've heard the latest prediction as Eagles Vs Colts with Eagles winning.
We'll see who the big winer.
Feb 14th Valentines Day
The guys should be getting together to figure something out about this.
All the guys should be getting an email shortly.
Home groups will be starting shortly. Next week I believe is when we'll
begin. The date is still being decided. If you want to join the Home Group
please contact Jay Yang, [email protected] or email any one of the leaders
and we can get you set up. Home Groups were a lot of fun for those of us
who were in it last year. It's quite challenging and I look forward to
seeing what's in store for the coming months. Let's keep Jay in our prayers
as he prepares and he leads us in this group.
If anyone is interested in a particular activity please get in contact
with any one of the leaders and we can get the activity going. We're
interested in anything. Last year we went swing dancing, bowling, movies,
tennis, ice skating and we're up for anything.
I think that's all the major annoucements this week. Hope to see you guys
on our ski trip. There will be lots of good food, games a la Risk and Axis
and Allies, pictionary, euchre etc and lots of great skiing.
Anyways have a great week.
Your Brother in Christ,
Eric

Subject: ROCC 2004
Date: Fri, 5 Dec 2003
For the coming year, it would be great if ROCC could become its own family. I know this is something hard to strive for. We all have own ideas of what a family is. The definition I mean here is a tight knit group that will accept each other for who we are, who has a relationship that requires great care and is looking at the long-term building up of each other, not just short-term, for our growth.
The role of a young adult group is to maintain frequent contact among its members, to focus on the growth of each other within the structure of the church. Sometimes, it is during these years that people may fall away or seek different ways to meet their expectations, and we need to be there to support single people who have no family to rely on, nor a common group of friends whom they can seek spiritual guidance.
My vision is that we meet regularly for dinners, evenings out, and volunteering to help form a bond that is connected by our love for God. We are true to God, and so will be true to each other. We want each one of us to succeed, and become happy long into the future, and we will look out for each other, especially when we see people in need. It requires commitment, and it is the most we can offer each other in the absence of other friends who can not or will not be able to understand our daily crisis. The more time we can share together, the stronger that bond will be. There will be personality conflicts, but we hope that the love of God and each other will prevent them from inflicting pain on each other, and cutting off our love for each other and disbanding our group. Perhaps, we will all have different interests, but this will be an opportunity to grow both in perspective and culture, love and life.
I need to where my heart on my sleeve more often, to share about the details of my life, and become more forthcoming and honest, in order to foster that sense within the group. I will open up my home, my life, unabashedly. I accept my faults, and therefore, accept the faults of others. We are a community, bound by our love for God, and we will be stronger as a group than individuals who are struggling against the temptations of the world, sin, and challenges that one person would be unable to face alone. Satan only needs to isolate us in order to break our will, but the more time we spend together, the more we will be able to fight the good fight. I also believe that as a community, we can lift each other up by example, and by good deed. Teamwork activities are encouraged, especially those encouraging frequent meetings. Team building activities such as physical challenges and other activities will be able to help establish the groundwork necessary to build trust. We must work on sensitivity to others, especially those who do not yet know their needs, and are unable to express or perhaps intentionally hide experiences that are a source of pain or fear.
We must act out of love for each other, and the mutual benefit of the group. The more effort we put in, the greater will the group become. The greatness of the group is not important, nor recognition of the individual team members in the group, but that we are becoming fulfilled, enriched, closer to God through the frequent meetings within the group. Christ-like behavior is in fact one that thinks outside one’s own immediate needs for the needs of others, in a community.
The focus therefore for 2004 will be on relationships. Building them, Enhancing them, and Loving through them. All of course is centered on our love of/from/through Christ.
What do you guys think about these for ROCC 2004 Logo:

For the Ski Trip on Jan 23 to 24, people will have the option of staying an additional night on the 24th. I will inquire about the cost for lift tickets.
